Youth and skills development
- Obuasi launched its Graduate Trainee Programme on 27 August 2019. This is a structured development framework of a year rotational programme across a variety of mine disciplines. The aim is to offer a platform to coach, adequately prepare and provide equal opportunities for talented young adults in the mining industry
- In 2020 and 2021, our annual apprenticeship programme had 57 and 82 youth participants respectively. This programme aims to provide an entry-level technical skills pipeline for the mine. Obuasi’s contractor company, Underground Mining Alliance, has also enrolled 12 youths from the host communities in their maiden apprenticeship training programme
- 500 trainees participated in a career guidance and counselling programme organized in partnership with Rotary Club to empower trainees of National Service Personnel and the Nations Building Corps in Obuasi to explore alternative career path for a sustainable future
